Wayne Leechford - Saxophones, Clarinet, & Flute


Wayne Leechford has performed with Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Coasters, Joan Rivers, Clay Aiken, Regis Philbin, Susan Lucci, Lorna Luft, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Harry James Orchestra, The Cab Calloway Orchestra, and New Century Saxophone Quartet. He also performs for nationally touring Broadway shows. He presented solo rectials in Scotland, UK (World Saxophone Congress XVI), the 36th International Saxophone Symposium, and is scheduled to present a recital at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference in 2014.

Regionally, he has played with the Raleigh Symphony, Chamber Orchesta of the Triangle, Free Spirits Ensemble, NC Jazz Repertory Orchestra, NC Saxophone Ensemble, Raleigh Civic Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, Tar River Orchestra, NC Wind Orchestra, NC Theatre, PlayMakers Repertory Company, Broadway Series South, and Raleigh Little Theatre. He performed for President Bill Clinton at the White House in 1995. His appearances have included live television, radio broadcasts, and recording sessions.

Wayne is from Raleigh, North Carolina. He received his BM and MM degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He is adjunct professor of saxophone at North Carolina State University and Wake Technical Community College. He is a dedicated woodwinds teacher. He owns and operates his own teaching studio in Cary, NC, Leechford Music Teaching Studios, where he teaches private lessons and chamber music. Also, he is a clinician for middle and high school wind ensembles, marching bands, and jazz bands. His students consistently receive top awards for their performances.
